The Road to Men's Summit

Purpose — What does God say my purpose is?

April 16, 2023

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Ephesians 2:10

Today, as we continue to prepare our hearts and minds for what God is going to do at this year’s Men’s Summit, we are going to pray about what God says our purpose is in this life. You might be asking yourself, “Why am I here? What was I made to do? What is my purpose?” As I started to walk in faith, I began to see that the answers to all my questions (and I had A LOT of them) would not be given to me on day one. However, the Lord began to reveal these to me in due time, and He continues to do so. One question that took a while for me to hear the Lord answer was, “What was I designed to do?” Or, “What is my purpose in this life?” Our purpose affects every part of our life. Rick Warren said it this way:

“Without God, life has no purpose, and without purpose, life has no meaning, and without meaning, life has no significance or hope.”

Here is what God’s word says about how we are designed and our purpose:

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Ephesians 2:10
“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.”
1 Peter 2:21
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
Proverbs 19:21
“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.”
Job 42:2

Our purpose is to seek the Lord with all we have, and to praise and worship Him. We do this by following where the Holy Spirit leads us so that others will not just see us or our works, but will see Christ through us. As you start learning to find or lean into your purpose, pray this prayer over yourself not just at Men’s Summit, but each day after as you grow in relationship with God:

“Father God, I ask today that you reveal my true purpose through the leading of the Holy Spirit. I pray this not just for this day, but each and every day moving forward. Keep reminding me that you created me to walk in fellowship and offer up all of my praise to You. Lord, keep me focused on my God-given purpose, and help me to not get distracted with the interference that comes with living in a fallen world. Let my focus and actions be guided by You so that others may come to know You and live out their God-given purpose! Amen.”
