Belief – What Do I Believe About God?

April 14, 2023

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”

Deuteronomy 6:5

The human mind. It’s a God-given gift we all have. When paired with our heart and our voice, it’s probably the most powerful instrument in the world. It’s the only combo that can close a multi-million dollar deal, say “I love you”, or even start a war all in one exhale from our mouths. And yet, even though they are all housed in one being, the human mind can play a deceptive game against our own heart and soul.

Paul does an incredible job explaining this very thought in Romans 7:15,

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do…

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
Romans 12:2 (NIV)

So how does this tie into what I believe about God? As believers, we sometimes struggle to get our “mind” on board with what our heart says about God. We believe and trust God with our heart and with all our soul, but it’s difficult to finish Matthew 22:37 and love and trust Him with our mind as well. In fact, we come loaded with a backpack full of questions and uncertainty. Let me say it in a different way. Sometimes it’s easier for me to trust Him with eternity than it is to trust Him with tomorrow.

Let us be reminded that just as we are made up in three parts (body, soul, and spirit), the Lord our God has given us a voice that completes our three-part combo and helps bridge the gap between our heart and our mind. When chaos and confusion ensue in our mind, let us use the instrument God has given us to wage war against the enemy. Speak the name of Jesus. Speak and remind yourself that the Lord is good. Speak that He still sees, He still hears, and He still heals.

Speak and remind yourself what you believe about God. Do this daily - with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. Let us pray this over ourselves:

“Father God, I believe in You. I believe in who You say I am. I believe in who You say You are. You are the King of kings and the Lord of Lords. You are the Alpha and the Omega. You will never change. You are the same God yesterday, today and forever. Thank You for loving me. In Jesus Name, Amen.”
