The Road to Men's Summit

Covenant – The New Covenant

April 17, 2023

“For what does the Scripture say? ‘Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."

Romans 4:3

As you prepare your heart for Men’s Summit, the Lord is going to help you function in the New Covenant. We know in our minds what the New Covenant is, but more often we don’t fully step into it. Today, we want to ask the Holy Spirit to help us understand and live out the New Covenant daily!

If you are anything like me, then you’ve probably experienced this scenario: You probably grew up only getting what you work hard for and with a lot of failure or falling short in the process. When you did fail, you felt shame. In other words, you can’t get any of the rewards in life if you experience failure. If you don’t perform well, then you deserve to be on the bench and just look from the sidelines.

If you relate to any of that, then you might have developed a performance-based mentality.

This performance mentality followed me in my walk with the Lord. The more I tried to perform, to be righteous before the Lord, the further I fell from Him. That is until the Holy Spirit led me to truth: that His love and grace are freely given because of the New Covenant through His Son, Jesus!

The New Covenant goes completely against this performance mentality. Let’s read these scriptures:

“For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself…”
Hebrews 6:13

“For what does the Scripture say? ‘Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.’”
Romans 4:3

“So all who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith.”
Galatians 3:9

Old Covenant living depends on works and Old Covenant says your works need to be perfect for you to be righteous. New Covenant living is based on Christ’s work and Christ’s righteousness!

Right now, let’s pray that the Lord would lead our hearts away from performance mentalities into living out His New Covenant for us:

“Lord, thank You that I don’t need to be perfect, because YOU are perfect. The pressure of performance is broken over my life. When I fall short, I’ll run to You and believe in the work of Your Son! Help me remember that You have made me righteous and to offer my life to You just as I am. In Jesus’ Name, I pray,

Amen!”
